Mission Statement

Mission Statement

A mission statement should be a short and clear statement that tells the purpose of a company or organization. It should clearly communicate the goal and values of the company to its client, business partners, and shareholders (if is a public company). Many times companies use their mission statements as an advertising slogan, to target on new clients while maintaining current clients with new innovative message. I believe a good mission statement should meet the following criteria:

- What is the purpose and values of the organization

- Who will be the target audiences

- What type of service and product do they offer

- What direction is the company moving towards

- How would they achieve those goals

Mission statement of Anchin Block Anchin LLP:

"Our mission is to be our client's most trusted and valued advisor, accomplishing this through creativity, innovation, insight, integrity and care. We are committed to providing the highest quality accounting, tax and advisory services."

I believe this a great example of a quality mission statement. It expresses their goal and service concisely. We can easily determine the nature of business is accounting. They provide the highest quality in accounting, tax and advisory services to their clients. Their mission statement is broad enough to target on different area of accounting, instead of mention the detail of their services. Through creativity, innovation, insight, integrity and care is the key to become their client’s most trusted and valued advisor. This also defines the goal for Anchin Block Anchin and the strategies they use to achieve their goal.

Your criteria’s sounds solid. I agree with your assessment of companies using their mission statement as advertisement. Mission statement it just made of promises by the company to attract new clients and motivate current employees. It’s just a way for one company to distinguish themselves from another. You could see this in Anchin Block Anchin LLP mission statement. When I was reading the mission statement, it feels like a salesman was reciting his sales pitch to me. Telling me what they do and how do it better than their competitors. This may sound egocentric, but it is an element that is need in a mission statement. The only thing I dislike about this statement is it to wordy. Other than that it fulfills all of your criteria for a sound statement.

Very direct and straight to the point. I agree with the criteria that you have laid out. Since a company only has a few lines to create a mission statement that will encompass everything it stands for, if they are able to fulfill your criteria, shows that their statement is sound and they are a company that's worth your time.

I am actually very familiar with Anchin Block and Anchin. I work on some of their previous clients so my firm is actually still in touch with them. So it was nice to see someone select Anchin Block and Anchin as a good example of a sound mission statement. Great job!
